The Tolminka

The Slovenian’s say there used to be more fish than water in this almost forgotten short and steep river. A mid Soca tributary, it’s very cold but can harbour some wonderful Marble trout and Grayling. Sadly the river suffered from a landslide upstream in 2005, so it doesn’t clear as quickly after rain as it did, but when conditions are right it’s not unusual to meet a big marble. Some of my guests have had lines broken by big fish here. Upstream from a spectacular gorge the fishing is wild and access difficult, though this shouldn’t deter a keen and proficient angler looking for wild trout & grayling.
